Understanding Jagannath Besha & Temple Festivals
Besha and Alankara
Besha describes the special attire and ornamentation offered to the deities. Different Beshas commemorate devotional themes, divine forms and observances in Shri Mandira.
Ekadashi, Purnima and Amabasya
These observances are related to the traditional lunar calendar. Their local ritual dates should be checked with the appropriate Odia Panjika.
Bhoga and Niti traditions
Seasonal food offerings and daily temple services are integral to the worship tradition. Festival days may affect the sequence and timing of rituals.
