The mandala updates over time and illustrates the Sun, Moon, lunar Tithi, Paksha and approximate Nakshatra. Times and calculations should be checked against an authoritative Puri Panjika when planning fasting dates, temple observances or auspicious ceremonies.
Timezone: Indian Standard Time (Asia/Kolkata). The astronomical visualisation is informational; official Shreemandira ritual observances follow the temple’s approved calendar.

What is Tithi?
A Tithi is a lunar day determined by the angular relationship between the Sun and Moon. Unlike a standard midnight-to-midnight calendar day, a Tithi can begin or end at different times.
Shukla and Krishna Paksha
Shukla Paksha is the waxing half of the lunar month, and Krishna Paksha is the waning half. Together they structure observances such as Ekadashi and Purnima.
What is Nakshatra?
Nakshatras are 27 traditional lunar constellational divisions. The Moon’s apparent position is used to identify the Nakshatra in Panchang calculations.
Puri temple observances
Jagannath Dham follows a distinctive cycle of Niti, Besha and annual festivals. Always distinguish a general calendar Tithi from the locally observed date of a temple ritual.
Daily Worship and the Temple Rhythm
The daily tradition of Shri Jagannath Mandir includes Mangal Arati, Mailama, Abakasha, Gopala Ballabha Bhoga, Sakala Dhupa, Madhyahna Dhupa, evening rituals and Bada Singhara Besha. Specific timings may change according to the temple’s daily schedule and special festivals.
